Actinomycetes, thermophilic, Θερμοφυλικοί Ακτινομύκητες: They are the main sources of antigen in several classic forms of allergic alveolitis. Actinomycetes possess a potent immunological adjuvant activity. (See alveolitis, allergic; pigeon breeder's disease).  Farmer's lung is caused by the allergic reaction to inhalation of thermophilic actinomycetes.
