Cyclic anaphylaxisCyclic, recurrent anaphylactic shock is reported very rarely and can happen during menstrual bleeding. Cyclic exacerbations of allergic reactions during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle is well documented in the allergy literature. Recurrent episodes of laryngeal edema associated with anaphylactic shock during menstruation are rare.  Possibly sex hormones (Progesterone) and prostaglandin F2a play role in the pathogenesis of this rare anaphylaxis[1]. Kaliner et al (1988) treat this condition with Leutinizing Hormone-Releasing Hormone agonist (LHRHa) (a hormone analogue that indirectly blocks the release of progesterone) to artificially depress progesterone production over an extented period of time. If LHRHa administration is not accepted by the patient oophorecotmy is effective[2].
