Λεξικό .. Benzoyl Peroxide

Chemical substance used as a keratolytic agent in the treatment of acne vularis and to promote skin peeling. Also used as a catalyst in the polymerization of acrylic resins in dentistry (called also benzoyl superoxide, benoxyl, dibenzoyl eroxide, and oxy-5). (see stomatitis, denture). Antibiotic resistance of Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes) is a growing phenomenon in the wake of widespread use of topical and systemic antibiotics for acne vulgaris. Benzoyl peroxide has a proven track record of safety and efficacy, and can decrease reliance on antibiotics in the treatment of acne [1]. Recent discoveries have provided new methods of increasing the efficacy and tolerability of topical BPO, making it useful as monotherapy for mild acne or as an adjunct in the treatment of moderate to severe acne vulgaris [1]. Fixed combination products of clindamycin 1% (as 1.2% clindamycin phosphate) and benzoyl peroxide (BPO) 5% are commonly used in the treatment of acne vulgaris [2].
