Antigen processing
In the humoral and cell-mediated immune system, the first step in immunologic activity is the binding of antigen to cell surfaces. The antigen interacts with the surface of an antigen-processing cell, such as a macrophage or Langerhans' cell.
These cells somehow alter or denature configurational arrangements of the antigen (processing) and hold it on their cell surfaces for subsequent interaction with T-lymphocytes presentation. (See Antigen processing and presentation).
