Stinging ant families, Οικογένειες νυσσόντων μυρμήκων.  The stinging ant families Myrmicidae and Poneridae use their stings basically to protect their nests. They sting by their jaws the skin of their victim. Dangerous are the stings of two genera of the family Myrmicidae namely the fire ant (Solenopsis) and the harvester ant (Pogonomyrmex) which are found in Southern USA and in Central America.

The sting apparatus of Formicoidae is underdeveloped
