Chlorpheniramine maleate

A classical antihistamine which belongs to alkylamines. Ornade, Chlortrimeton Piriton are trade names for chlorpheniramine. Dose: by mouth, 4mg every 4-6 hours max. 24mg daily; child 1-2 years, 1mg twice daily, 2-5 years, 1mg every 4-6 hours max. 6mg daily, 6-12 year 2mg every 4-6 hours, max. 12mg daily. By subcutaneous or intramuscular injection, 10-20 mg, repeated if required; max. 40mg in 24 hours.

By slow intravenous injection over 1 minute, 10-20 mg diluted in syringe with 5-10 mL blood. Cautions: Injections may be irritant and cause transitory hypotention may be irritant and cause transitory hypotention or CNS stimulation.
