Dictionary of Allergies .. CD4+ pro-inflammatory Tαβ lymphocytes

Tαβ lymphocytes are called helper cells. They can help B lymphocytes to create antibody. CD4+ Tαβ cells, after activation by specific antigenic peptides secrete many proteins called lymphokines. Lymphokines act on other cells and orchestrate inflammatory responses irrespectively of whether or not antibody production is part of the response.

The CD4+ T-lymphocyte derived lymphokines are: 1) The pro-inflammatory lymphokines [interferon-γ (IFN-γ)], granulocyte/macrophage colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF), tumour necrosis factor a (TNF-a) and TNF-b, IL3, IL-4, IL-5, IL-8  2) Lymphokines causing differentiation/proliferation of lymphocytes [IL2 and -4(T lymphokines), IL3, -4,-5,-6, and -7 (B-lymphocytes)  3) Lymphokines affecting lymphocyte and granulocyte haemopoiesis [IL3, -4,-5,-6, and -7, GM-CSF (all granulocytes and monocytes)]. (See CD8+ T Cells THMV1 cells, THMV2 cells).
