Dictionary of Allergies .. CD1a positive lymph cells

These cells probably represent skin derived Langerhans cells (LC) migrating towards the regional lymph nodes.

They are a bone marrow-derived type of dendritic cells and are mainly involved in antigen presentation. The lack of clear morphological differences between LC and monocytes/macrophages raises problems with their identification, which can be overcome by immunocytochemical marking using different antibodies.
