Dictionary of Allergies .. Blue mussel [(L) Mytilus edulis]

Blue mussels, as well as other seafoods, belong to Mollusca phylum in the class of bivalves [1] are known to often cause allergic reactions such as urticaria and symptoms in the gastrointestinal tract. The time of the year is important for the blue mussel's capability of inducing allergic reactions. It has been suggested cross-reactivity between blue mussels and oysters and between blue mussel and crab. f37 is the symbol of blue mussel in RAST, UniCAP/Pharmacia CAP System Allergens.
