Dictionary of Allergies .. Astromeria

A plant with pupular flowers, also known as Peruvian Lily and Inca lily.  It contains a potent allergen present in the stem and leaf, called tuliposide.  Contact dermatitis caused by this plant has been well recognized in floral industry for several years in Europe and USA.  Tuliposide (a-methylene-Å“-butyrolactone) is identical to the allergen found in tulip bulbs and responsible in tulip bulbs sorters, packers and gardeners for the dermatitis known as "tulip fingers".
