Λεξικό .. Aculeata

A suborder of Hymenoptera. Insects of allergenic importance, e.g. bees. Their oviposidor is adapted as a weapon with associated glands and can cause painful local reactions. The venom apparatus is used by Aculeatae mainly for paralysing prey animals. Against man it is employed exclusively in defence. The stings can sensitise the victims and above all from the more numerous, social apids and vespids. A serious, occasionally even fatal, systemic allergic reactions may follow a further sting.
