Activation markers

Bronchial inflammation plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of asthma, and is accompanied by increased bronchial hyperresponsiveness (BHR). The persistent inflammation of the bronchial mucosa is characterized by infiltration of eosinophils and is, at least partly or orchestrated by T cells (CD4+ cells). When those cells are activated produce cytokines, such as interleukin (IL)-3, IL-5 and GM-CSF that modulate inflammatory cells, including eosinophils.
